There are several ways you can think about the contemporary you-have-to-look-young craze. You can think, for example, that it’s something that’s always been there, but has only recently passed on from royals and nobles to the rest of us. You can also think that it’s something we’re conditioned to be obsessed with, mostly by advertising and magazine graphics departments. Or you can make a link between youthfulness and being healthy and thus attractive, and consider the quest for youthful looks simply as part of being human.
Still, no matter how you look at it, people want to look young for longer, and aging hasn’t gone anywhere. Gravity is still here, slowly making our skin saggy. The natural degradation that comes over time haven’t been stopped or reversed. Your skin will eventually look old, but then again, there’s no reason for it to start looking old before it has to.
The biggest source of skin damage which leads to premature aging is – the sun. But, with the sun being responsible for good things as well, you shouldn’t avoid it altogether and start living your life only in the night. Having a good sunscreen that protects your skin from both UVA and UVB rays and applying it daily will suffice, and avoiding spending too much time in the sun during the peak hours will always help.
Next, there are the things that we do to our skin ourselves. Smoking and drinking can cause skin damage and degrade its overall health, which will eventually make it look worse than it should. So, having a drink now and then is better than heavy partying, or making that drink a daily habit. As for smoking – just quit, if you can. If you can’t, look for help and then quit.
Taking good care of your body, skin included, will keep you healthy and vital for longer, and your skin will reflect it. Try not to eat as much processed foods, or drink sodas, and try to lead a more active lifestyle. You can walk, run, pump iron, it doesn’t matter. Just do something. Of course, you’ll need to have a good basic skincare regimen as well, if you want to keep your skin healthy, and you’ll really need to find the time for a good night’s rest, every night.
And that’s pretty much it. Of course, there are lots of procedures that are used to shave of years from the skin, along with a layer of two of the skin itself, but those are not preventive. They might benefit you when the damage is already done. The same goes for a lot of the anti-aging creams on the market today as well. So, when talking about prevention, taking good care of your body and mind is the best you can do.
