Summer’s All But Gone – Time To Tend To Your Skin

Posted by Michelle on 9/10/2014 to Skin Advice

The signs of summer being almost gone are everywhere we look. The days are slowly getting shorter, the leaves are starting to fall from the trees, and even the sun doesn’t seem to shine as bright as it did only a few weeks ago. It’s time for a transition from summer to fall. It’s also the time to take a closer look at the damage your skin suffered during the hottest season, and taking the necessary steps to repairing it.

Sun affects your skin in a variety of ways, and while some are desirable, like a sun tan, others are not. So before you figure out what’s your next skincare step, be sure to continue applying sunscreen even though it might seem it’s not really necessary, because it is. You shouldn’t forget to moisturize either, because you need to do that all year round. And if you spent the summer partying, be sure to take a couple of weeks to detox properly. It will show on your skin.

After you’ve made sure you’re covering the basics – moisturizing and protecting your skin from the sun – you can move on to summing up the damage your skin took. You’ll probably want to exfoliate, because you should remove all the dead skin cells and allow them to be replaced with new ones. Renewal is very important during this transition period because it will make your skin ready for the tough season that comes after fall – winter. If you’re noticing signs your skin is aging due to sun exposure, it might be a good time to start an anti-aging regimen as well.

Hyper-pigmentation, freckles, and even acne breakouts, can also be a common leftover from the summer. To treat them, you should either use the products you know work well with your skin based on previous experience, or seek advice from a dermatologist. In fact, it would be best to check with a dermatologist even if you already know the products that sooth you, because your skin changes over time, and there might be new, better, products you haven’t heard of.

Apart from the mentioned things, you should also be aware that, depending on the climate you live in, you could go for heavier skincare products if the fall is cool in your region. You won’t be sweating as much during the fall, and your skin will appreciate the extra nutrition while fall turns into winter.
